Parable of the Wheat and the Tares

Parable Of The Wheat and Tares

The drift of the parable is, to represent to us the present and future state of the kingdom of heaven, the gospel church: Christ’s care of it, the devil’s plot against it, the mixture that there is in it of good and bad in the world.

Note, The visible church is the kingdom of heaven; though there be many hypocrites in it, Christ rules in it as a King; and there is a remnant of people in it, that are the subjects and heirs of heaven: the church is the kingdom of heaven upon earth.

Matthew 13:24-30;

Let us go over the particulars of the of the parable.

  1. (1.) He that sows the good seed is the Son of man. Jesus Christ is the Lord of the field, the Lord of the harvest, the Sower of good seed.

Note, Whatever good seed there is in the world, it all comes from the hand of Jesus, and is of his sowing: Everything we have comes from Christ!!

  1. The field is the world; the world of mankind, a large field,the world here is the visible church,
  • Observe, In the parable it is called his field; the world is Christ’s field, for all things are delivered unto him of the Father: And because it is his field, and because it is his he took care to sow it with good seed.
  • Satan only has the power that he steals from the world or what he has been granted in the darkness of evil for a period of time….. He may be the prince of this world in the darkness disguised as light but there is only 1 King and His name is Jesus!!!!

  1. The good seed are the children of the kingdom, true saints. They are,

[1.] The children of the kingdom; not in profession only, as the Jews were (Matt. 8:12) the Pharisees.

  • True sincere Jews. walking by faith and obedience and following Jesus Christ the great King of the Kingdom

[2.] They are the good seed, precious seed ;

  • They were seed’s of substance of the field;
  • The seed were scattered:  when they plant wheat they plant it all together not in rows…
  • Some patches thicker than other some have bare spots, but the seeds of the saints can always bear fruit despite what the enemy may be trying to do in the field of the harvest!!
  • The seed is that from which fruit is expected; what fruit of honour and service God has from this world he has from the saints, who God himself has sown unto himself in the earth,
  • Listen to what the Lord said to the prophet Hosea 2:23. “I will sow her for Myself in the land. I will also have compassion on her who had not obtained compassion, And I will say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My people!’ And they will say, ‘You are my God!’

  1. The tares are the children of the wicked one.

Here is the character of sinners, hypocrites, and all profane and wicked people.

[1.] They are the children of the devil, as a wicked one.

Though they do not own his name, yet they bear his image, do his lusts, and from him they have their education; he rules over them, he works in them, Eph. 2:2; John 8:44.

[2.] They are tares in the field of this world; they do no good, they do hurt; unprofitable in themselves, and hurtful to the good seed, both by temptation and persecution:

they are weeds in the garden, they have the same rain, and sunshine, and same soil, with the good plants, but are good for nothing:

the tares are among the wheat.

  1. The enemy that sowed the tares is the devil; a sworn enemy to Christ and all that is good, to the glory of the good God, and the comfort and happiness of all good men.

He is an enemy to the field of the world, which he endeavours to make his own, by sowing his tares in it.

Ever since he became a wicked spirit himself, his soul purpose is to sow wickedness, and has made it his business, and aim to destroy the work Christ.

  • Now concerning the sowing of the tares, observe in the parable,

[1.] That they were sown while men slept. Vs, 25 … Who were the Men sleeping

The church slept the ministers slept, even with all their good  preaching, all who were placed in authority slept while they should have prevented this mischief!

The Judges sleep,the courts sleep, our Goverment sleeps even with all therir power!!! The world is spinning on miracles from above but yet it still sleeps!!

  • Note, Satan watches all opportunities, and lays hold of all advantages, to propagate vice and profaneness.

Satan always pounches like a lion when our reason and conscience sleep, when they are off their guard; Thats why we have to be sober, and aware and in our right mind!!

It was in the night, for that is the sleeping time.

  • Note, Satan rules in the darkness of this world; that gives him an opportunity to sow tares, Ps. 104:20 “You appoint darkness and it becomes night,In which all the beasts of the forest prowl about.”

  • It was while men slept;

Note, It is as impossible for us to prevent hypocrites being in the church, as it is for the husbandman, when he is asleep, to hinder an enemy from spoiling his field. We can’t save them all and sometimes the enemy slips some in….

[2.] Notice though when the enemy, had sown the tares what did he do ? He went his way (Matt. 13:25), that it might not be known who did it.

Note, When Satan is doing the greatest mischief, he studies most to conceal himself;

2 Cor. 11:13, 14 he transforms himself into an angel of light,

[3.] The tares are the children of the wicked one.

Here we find the character of sinners, hypocrites, and all profane and wicked people.

[1.] They are the children of the devil, as a wicked one.

Though they do not own his name, yet they bear his image, do his lusts, and from him they have their education; he rules over them, he works in them, Eph. 2:2;   John 8:44.

[2.] They are tares in the field of this world; they do no good, the hurt  and destroy; their unprofitable in themselves, and hurtful to the good seed, both by temptation and persecution: they are poisionous weeds in the garden.

They recieve the same rain, and sunshine, and soil, with the good plants, but are good for nothing:

They are the tares are among the wheat.

Note, God has so ordered it, that good and bad should be mixed together in this world, that the good may be exercised, the bad left inexcusable, and a difference made between earth and heaven.

Note. Anyone know what a tare really is other than a weed?

Tares

the bearded darnel, mentioned only in Matt. 13:25-30. It is the Lolium temulentum, a species of rye-grass, the seeds of which are a strong soporific poison.

It bears the closest resemblance to wheat till the ear appears, and only then the difference is discovered.                                                              It grows plentifully in Syria and Palestine.

  • The darnel wheat are the offspring of the evil one. He (Jesus)  tells them how His angels are going to sort out the real wheat from the darnel wheat and throw the darnel into the fire.
  • John the Baptist said in Matt. 3: 7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Therefore bear fruit in keeping with repentance; 9 and do not suppose that you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father’; for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham. 10 The axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

11 “As for me, I baptize you [g]with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you [h]with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

  • What is the difference between darnel wheat and real wheat? Darnel wheat is a type of rye.

Unlike real wheat the heads are hollow; there is no fruit. No substance!!

They look exactly alike but only on the inside are they different.

The Tares are planted for one reson,  to poison the flock and to defile the Body of Christ.

And if one of them is disguised as a “minister of light” all the better because he has the potential to affect many.

    • We live in very dangerous times.

  • Darnel wheat is poisonous, too.

It has a soporific poison. Soporific means to cause sleep,

Im reminded of another Parable one in Matthew 25 about the Ten Virgins… waiting on the bridegroom they all feel a sleep….

What lulled them? What darnel wheat were they partaking of that lulled them to sleep?

Five woke up and trimmed their lamps while the others still dozed.

Five realized they were in danger and got their act together.They made it into the wedding feast but then the door was shut!! The other 5 got locked outside in the darkness crying to be let in and the Lord said “Truly I do not know you”.

We need to get our act together!!! We live in extremely dangerous times and I cannot emphasize that enough. Be have to alert as Jesus said for you do not know the hour!!!
