Who Do We Rely On?

Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, “Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army.Lord, you are our God; do not let mere mortals prevail against you.”

What they trust in is fragile; what they rely on is a spider’s web.

Will you rely on it for its great strength? Will you leave your heavy work to it?

my God on whom I can rely. God will go before me and will let me gloat over those who slander me.

You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely.

Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.

[ The Remnant of Israel ] In that day the remnant of Israel, the survivors of Jacob, will no longer rely on him who struck them down but will truly rely on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.

[ Woe to Those Who Rely on Egypt ] Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the HolyOne of Israel, or seek help from the Lord.

you who call yourselves citizens of the holy city and claim to rely on the God of Israel— the Lord Almighty is his name:

Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of his servant? Let the one who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on their God.

No one calls for justice; no one pleads a case with integrity. They rely on empty arguments, they utter lies; they conceive trouble and give birth to evil.

The Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “I am about to bring punishment on Amon god of Thebes, onPharaoh, on Egypt and her gods and her kings, and onthose who rely on Pharaoh.

You rely on your sword, you do detestable things, and each of you defiles his neighbor’s wife. Should you then possess the land?’

[ The Jews and the Law ] Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and boast in God;

Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.

[ Paul’s Change of Plans ] Now this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, with integrity and godly sincerity. We have done so, relying not on worldly wisdom but on God’s grace.

So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
